Three Portfolio Managers Join First Republic In Palm Beach

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC), a leading private bank and wealth management company, today announced that Barry Berg, Phil Gilbert and Zach Berg have joined First Republic as Managing Directors and Portfolio Managers.

The team, which previously worked for Credit Suisse, will be located in First Republic's banking and wealth management office in Palm Beach, Florida. Barry Berg has 35 years of financial services and accounting experience, Zach Berg has 18 years of investment experience and Gilbert has 10 years of financial services experience.

The new team is part of First Republic Private Wealth Management's expanding wealth management group. Over the past several years, First Republic has significantly grown its wealth management business through organic growth, the acquisitions of Constellation Wealth Advisors and Luminous Capital, and the hiring of a number of top-performing wealth management teams.

Barry Berg specializes in creating and implementing investment plans for high net worth individuals and families, as well as large endowments, foundations, and pension plans. At Credit Suisse, he was a director of Private Banking North America. Prior to that, Berg worked with Bernstein Global Wealth Management for 17 years and Ernst & Young for 16 years in West Palm Beach. Berg is currently a member of the advisory board of the Honors College at the Florida Atlantic University. He is a member of the Board of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County and serves as the 2015 Campaign Chair. Berg is also a member of the Anti-Defamation League National Commission and is currently a member of the ADL Pension Investment Advisory committee.

Barry Berg was the Founding Chairman of Leadership Palm Beach County from 1984 to 1987 and was a member of the board until 1990. Additionally, Berg was on the Founding Board of the Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County in 1986. He attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Juris Doctorate in Law. Berg is a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland and Florida, and a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars.

Zach Berg is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) who specializes in serving affluent families and institutions, as well as their family offices, trusts, estates, foundations and endowments. At Credit Suisse, he provided a wide range of services to clients, including tax and estate planning, the management and liquidation of concentrated stock positions, and the sales of privately held businesses. Prior to Credit Suisse, Berg spent 13 years in commercial real estate and worked as Director of Operations for American Commercial Realty Corp.

Zach Berg is currently a member of the Young Friends of the Kravis Center executive committee, a member of the Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association and a member of Leadership Palm Beach County Class of 2014. Berg has served on the Board of Directors for the Jewish Community Center of Palm Beach and the Young Leadership Division of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and MBA in Finance from Florida Atlantic University.

Phil Gilbert, a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), works with families and institutions, as well as their family offices, trusts, estates, foundations and endowments. Prior to joining First Republic, Gilbert worked for Credit Suisse for five years as a Vice President and Relationship Manager in the West Palm Beach office. Earlier in his career, Gilbert worked with Bernstein Global Wealth Management.

Gilbert is currently a member of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, the University of Florida Alumni Association, and an active member at St. Patrick Church in Palm Beach Gardens. Gilbert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Finance from Purdue University and an MBA from the University of Florida.
