Three motorists jailed over weekend

Moultrie Observer (GA)

Nov. 02--MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Three drivers who struck stationary objects during weekend incidents were jailed, one after hitting a police car and another who apparently ran into a post while leaving a Moultrie nightclub shortly before 2 a.m.

Moultrie police responded at 1:54 a.m. to the 50 Yard Line, Third St. N.E., to investigate an accident. An officer working security at the club told them that the driver of a white Pontiac Grand Prix hit the pole while trying to exit the parking lot.

Ricardo Reshad Jeffrey, who was identified as the driver, was unsteady on his feet, police said, lost his balance several times and used the car to steady himself. He also smelled "strongly" of alcohol and had glassy eyes.

Jeffrey left the parking lot, but the off-duty officer stopped him, police said, and he was standing beside his car, which was parked at a stop sign, when they arrived. A portable alcohol sensor indicated that Jeffrey's blood alcohol content was nearly double the legal limit.

Police are awaiting results of blood tests taken at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Jeffrey, 32, 261 Court St. N., Pearson, Ga., was charged Saturday with driving under the influence and striking a fixed object.

In a similar incident on Sunday police made an arrest and seized suspected marijuana after being dispatched at about 1:30 a.m. to a report of a driver striking another car in the drive-through line.

When police spoke with Justin Lane Bass at the 406 First Ave. S.E., McDonald's, he told them that he struck the rear bumper of the car in front of him.

Police reports said that a 2014 Nissan Sentra and a 1992 Ford Mustang were involved, but did not indicate which car Bass was driving.

The car driven by Adam Smith, 34, of Hartsfield had minor damage to the to the rear bumper and the other car was undamaged.

Bass, 19, 2595 Sam Sells Road, was charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.

Police said that when they arrived he smelled of alcohol and that they detected the odor of marijuana on him and coming from his car. An officer found suspected marijuana in the ash tray.

An officer transported Bass to Colquitt Regional, where a blood sample was taken and sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for testing.

In the third incident a driver backed into a Colquitt County Sheriff's Office patrol car at the intersection of Woodmen Road and Sylvester Highway at about 12:20 p.m. on Monday.

The officer told the investigating Georgia State Patrol trooper that he was stopped at the intersection behind a blue flatbed truck whose driver put the truck in reverse and struck the patrol car.

The GSP charged Juan Francisco Jimenez-Osuna, 22, 190 Green St., with driving without license, no insurance, expired vehicle tag or decal and improper backing.
