‘The Little Rascals’ Star Bug Hall Arrested in Ohio Over Missed Court Appearance

Ryan Brennan, Miami HeraldMiami Herald

Brandon “Bug” Hall — best known for playing Alfalfa in The Little Rascals — is back in the headlines following an arrest in Ohio. But the real story isn’t just the charge. It’s how dramatically his life has changed since his days as a child star.

Hall, 41, was arrested and charged with failure to appear in court, according to TMZ on April 13.

The missed court date stemmed from a December 31, 2024 hearing tied to an earlier traffic violation on October 29, 2024, for driving without liability insurance.

He has since been released from custody, per the Marion County Sheriff’s Office via People.

While the charge itself is relatively minor, it adds to a string of headline-making moments that reflect a much bigger shift in Hall’s life.

Born Brandon Rowan, Hall rose to fame as Alfalfa in The Little Rascals, a role that launched his acting career.

He went on to build a steady résumé throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, appearing in films like The Big Green, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, The Stupids and Get a Clue. On television, he had roles in series including Charmed, CSI: Miami and Criminal Minds.

More recently, Hall appeared in Cabrini and This Is the Year, though his presence in Hollywood has largely faded.

This isn’t Hall’s first encounter with law enforcement.

In June 2020, he was arrested in Weatherford, Texas, after a family member requested a welfare check, according to TMZ. Police found him in a hotel room surrounded by air duster cans, and he was booked on a misdemeanor charge related to the use or inhalation of a volatile chemical.

Hall later told the Daily Mail that the case did not result in charges. He also pointed to the incident as a turning point that ultimately led him to step away from acting.

Since leaving Hollywood, Hall has embraced a lifestyle that’s a stark contrast to his former career.

He relocated his family to an 80-acre property near Mountain View, Arkansas, after previously living in Texas, Michigan and Ohio. In a January interview with the Daily Mail, Hall said he had taken a “vow of poverty,” giving away most of his possessions and savings in an effort to live without a traditional income.

The family currently lives in a campervan equipped with a water well and generator. Hall has said he plans to build a self-sustaining home complete with its own hydroelectric system, plumbing and electrical infrastructure.

Hall married Jill DeGroff in 2017, and the couple shares five children — four daughters and one son.

The children are homeschooled, and Hall has described his parenting approach as “extremist,” saying he intends to strongly discourage them from attending traditional school or college, which he has called “nonsense.”

Hall has also undergone a significant religious transformation.

He now identifies as a “radical Catholic extremist,” a belief system he discussed in an April 2025 YouTube video titled “Into the Unknown.”

In the video, Hall explained that his acting career no longer aligned with his faith, ultimately leading to his decision to leave the entertainment industry.

Hall is no longer in custody following his latest arrest in Ohio.

But between his legal issues, his highly unconventional lifestyle and his outspoken personal beliefs, his post-Hollywood path has become one of the more unexpected trajectories among former child stars.

What began as a minor legal headline ultimately underscores a much larger story — one of reinvention, controversy and a life far removed from the spotlight.
