Texas Democrats Condemn Washington Republicans’ Push to Cut Medicare and Social Security to Pay for Tax Cut for the Rich

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 18 -- The Texas Democratic Party issued the following press document:
This week, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell resumed the attack on hard-working Texans by pushing the idea that to address the ballooning debt and deficit, they would cut Medicare and Social Security. The Republican tax bill added $1.9 trillion to our national debt.
Additionally, McConnell said he would revisit repeal of the Affordable Care Act. He did not clarify whether they had an actual plan to lower prices or increase coverage, or even protect people with pre-existing conditions.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:
"In an irresponsible giveaway to corporations and wealthy campaign donors, Texas Republicans all voted in lock-step for their tax giveaway that added $1.9 trillion to our national debt.
"Now, these same politicians are looking to balance the budget on the backs of the middle-class. Will Texas Republicans toe the party line or will they stand up to protect Texans' earned benefits that they paid into?
"TexasDemocrats will fight every step of the way to protect Texans' health care, restore fiscal sanity in Washington and defend Medicare and Social Security."
