Study Results from University of Tehran Update Understanding of Chronic Disease [Self-reported health related quality of life (HRQoL) and factors affecting health insured in Iran]

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Health & Medicine Week -- Current study results on Disease Attributes - Chronic Disease have been published. According to news reporting from Tehran, Iran, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, "The aim of this study was to measure HRQoL and affecting factors in health insured in Tehran city, Iran. A cross-sectional analytical study conducted using the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire."

The news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from the University of Tehran, "In order to estimate the determinants of HRQoL, demographic, socioeconomic and health status were included. Cluster sampling technique was used in data collection -from May to June, 2016. The chi-squared test and weighted least squares (WLS) were employed for data analysis. Data were analyzed by Stata version 11. A total of 600 Iranian insured completed the study. Of which 327(54.5%) were male and 273(45.5%) were female. The average mean score of participants' age was 41.48 (SD?14.6) years. Meanwhile, the mean of years of schooling was 12.36 (SD=4.68). The mean EQ-5D value was 0.745 (S.D=0.164). The most common health problems in the participants were anxiety/discomfort (42.33%) followed by pain/discomfort (39.17%). Sex, age, years of schooling, income, chronic disease and BMI had a significant effect on HRQoL (p <0.05). The healthy insured, in average, had 0.119 more score in QoL in comparing to people with a chronic disease, all else being equal (p <0.001). Among all determinants of QoL, chronic disease had the most priority for intervention in order to improve the health status of Iranian insured."

According to the news reporters, the research concluded: "This evidence can help policy makers and health insurance organizations for better planning to promote HRQoL of insured and society in Iran."
