Southland crime: Doors shattered in burglaries at three businesses in New Lenox, more

Chicago Tribune (IL)

Feb. 27-- Feb. 27--Palos Heights

VEHICLE BURGLARY: Charles Cooper was arrested and accused of burglary to a vehicle Feb. 19 after laptop computer was stolen from a car parked in the 11800 block of Southwest Highway, police said.

DUI ARREST: Vincent Sutter, 33, of Oak Lawn, was arrested and accused of drunken driving Feb. 23 after he was stopped in the 11900 block of Harlem Avenue, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Luis Martinez, 19, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license Feb. 24 after he was stopped in the 12000 block of Harlem Avenue, police said.

Palos Hills

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Crystal Abonce, 28, of Evergreen Park, was arrested Feb. 18 and accused of driving on a suspended, talking on a cellular phone while driving and driving without insurance after she was stopped in the 10700 block of Roberts Road, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Corina Claudio, 24, of Stickney was arrested Feb. 20 and accused of driving on a suspended license, improper lane usage and talking on her cellular phone while driving in the 9200 block of 111th Street, police said.

HOUSE FIRE: Police responded to a house fire Feb. 21 in the 10000 of 87th Avenue, police said. The house was unoccupied at the time and was declared not fit for occupancy after firefighters from the North Palos Fire Protection District extinguished the fire.

ASSAULT: McKinley Black-Rashadr, 32, of Markham, was arrested and accused of assault Feb. 22 after he was involved in an argument at the Bria in the 10400 Roberts Road, police said.

DRUG ARREST: Joshua Olvera, 34, of Oak Lawn, was arrested Feb. 24, and accused of possession of cocaine and speeding in the 10300 block of Harlem Avenue, police said.

Chicago Ridge

REVOKED LICENSE: Jimmy John, 34, of Burbank, was arrested and accused of driving on a revoked license, driving without insurance and talking on his cellular phone while driving Feb. 15 in the 7100 block of 103rd Street, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Javier Bahena, 24, of Worth, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license Feb. 17 after he was stopped for a traffic violation in the 11100 block of Major Avenue, police said.

DOMESTIC BATTERY: Marion Herman, 74, of the 6200 block of Birmingham Street, was arrested and accused of domestic battery Feb. 19, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Anthony Schroder, 55, of Burbank, was arrested Feb. 20 and accused of driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance following a traffic stop in the 11100 block of Ridgeland Avenue, police said.

REVOKED LICENSE: John Kowalczyk, 64, of Burbank, was arrested Feb. 21 and accused of driving on a revoked license and driving without insurance following a traffic related stop at the intersection of Southwest Highway and Harlem Avenue, police said.

NARCOTICS ARREST: Shadif Abdallah, 24, of Oak Lawn, was arrested Feb. 21 after he was stopped for a traffic violation in the 11100 Central Avenue and found to be in possession of six Alprazalom pills that were not prescribed to him by a doctor, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Monadel Yusuf, 30, of Melrose Park, was arrested Feb. 22 and accused of driving on a suspended license and driving with an expired registration on his car, police said.

Country Club Hills

DOMESTIC BATTERY: Kayla A. Allen, 18, 4000 block of 190th Street, Country Club Hills, was arrested and accused of domestic battery Feb. 14 in that block, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: George P. Pittman, 37, 14500 block of Jefferson Street, Harvey, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and failing to signal when required Feb. 14 in the 18600 block of Cicero Avenue where he was also served with an undisclosed Orland Park warrant, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Jahanah J. Wallace, 27, 5700 block of Woodgate Drive, Matteson, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and expired registration Feb. 14 at 168th Place and Pulaski Road, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Betty M. Thomas, 57, 16300 block of State Street, South Holland, was arrested and accused of retail theft Feb. 15 at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 4005 168th Place, after the price of merchandise was reduced by $200 through under-ringing, police said.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Phillip A. Powell, 41, 16900 block of Sunset Ridge Drive, was arrested and accused of domestic assault Feb. 16 in that block, police said.

Homewood

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Justyn Thornton, 21, Lansing, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and following too closely during a Feb. 8 crash investigation in the 18700 block of Center Avenue, police said.

TRESPASSING: Jesus Campos Parra, 34, Hobart, Ind., was arrested and accused of trespassing Feb. 14 at Buffalo Wild Wings, 17510 Halsted St., police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Robert Smith, 63, Chicago, was arrested and accused of retail theft Feb. 14 at Walt's, 2345 183rd St., after merchandise selling for $111.62 was stolen police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Ryan White, 19, Lansing, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and improper lighting/one headlamp Feb. 14 in the 17600 block of Dixie Highway, police said.

NARCOTICS: Amber Briggs, 32, Crown Point, Ind., was arrested and accused of possession of a controlled substance after police said she had two-fifths of a gram of suspected heroin during a Feb. 15 retail-theft investigation at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 17550 Halsted St., police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Melvin Carter, 25, 19400 block of Chicago Heights Glenwood Road, Chicago Heights, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and improper lighting/one headlamp Feb. 15 in the 19200 block of Halsted Street, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Allison Moore, 37, St. Louis, Mo., was arrested and accused of retail theft Feb. 17 at Kohl's, 17620 Halsted St., after merchandise selling for $178.65 was stolen, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Derrick Barnes, 49, 500 block of Beacon Boulevard, Chicago Heights, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and improper lighting/one headlamp Feb. 18 at 187th & Halsted streets, police said.

SHOTS FIRED: The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit is asking anyone with information about an incident in the 1400 block of Willow Road in which shots were reportedly fired around 8:30 p.m. Feb. 20 to call (708) 206-3420. No one was injured, police said.

Frankfort

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Tonna Brunson, 29, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and no insurance Feb. 13 at U.S. 30 and 84th Avenue, police said.

BURGLAR ARRESTED: Devonn Holden, 22, of the 3200 block of West 167th Street, Markham, was arrested and accused of felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal trespass to a vehicle after a Feb. 18 incident in the 0-100 block of Bowen Street, police said.

Homer Glen

STORE BURGLARY: Police said someone stole a small amount of cash from the register at Sal Philly's, 14215 S. Bell Road, on Feb. 8.

New Lenox

DRUG ARREST: Christina Fontana, 30, who is homeless, was arrested and accused of possession of heroin, obstructing justice and retail theft after numerous medications were stolen from Walgreens, 466 Nelson Road, New Lenox, Jan. 29, police said.

COUNTERFEIT CASH: An unknown customer used a phony $100 bill to pay for an order at Jimmy John's, 2334 E. U.S. 30, on Jan. 30, police said. The same day, TCF bank in the 2400 block of U.S. 30 complained a business deposited a fake $100 bill.

STOLEN CAR: Someone stole a car left running in a driveway in the 100 block of East Wood Street Jan. 30. The car was discovered running and abandoned the following day in Harvey.

DUI ARREST: Gezelle Sanchez, 24, of Joliet, was arrested and accused of drunken driving and possession of marijuana Feb. 1, police said.

BUSINESSES BURGLARIZED: Three New Lenox businesses were burglarized Feb. 2. Police discovered the glass front doors shattered at Mo's Chinese Kitchen, Natural Choices and Charles Morris Salon, all located on U.S. 30. An unknown amount of cash was taken from each business.

DRUG ARREST: Matthew Latif, 23, of the 19800 block of Cambridge Drive, Mokena, was arrested and accused of possession of cocaine after police said he threw a plastic bag out of his car window when being stopped for a traffic violation at Old Hickory Road and North Vine Street Feb. 2, police said.

Mokena

CRIMINAL TRESSPASS: Alexander Mulligan, 25, of the 7900 block of West 98th Place, Hickory Hills, was arrested and accused of criminal trespass to property after a disturbance at Super 8, 9485 W. 191st St., on Feb. 3, police said. After being discharged from the police station, Mulligan returned to the Super 8 Feb. 4 and was again charged with criminal trespassing, police said.

Tinley Park

DOMESTIC BATTERY: Sergio Murillo, 25, of the 16600 block of Theresa Lane, Tinley Park, was arrested and accused of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and unlawful possession of a weapon after a Feb. 15 incident at his home, police said.

THEFT: A woman told police someone stole her cell phone from a table in the McDonald's play area, 15920 S. Harlem Ave., on Feb. 16.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY: Police discovered pry marks on the door to Potbelly's, 15901 Harlem Ave. after responding to a burglar alarm Feb. 16.

Oak Forest

DUI ARREST: Zachary Throne, 32, of the 13600 block of Lamon Avenue, Crestwood, was arrested and accused of drunken driving and obstructing traffic after police said they discovered him asleep behind the wheel at 147th Street and Justamere Road Feb. 18, police said.

Orland Park

DRUG ARREST: Shauna Wilson, 38, of Kankakee, was arrested and accused of possession of amphetamines, possession of hypodermic needles, improper lane usage and driving on a suspended license Feb. 3 in the 8000 block of 159th Street, police said.

ROBBERY ARREST: Jadakis Jones, 18, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of felony robbery after merchandise was stolen from Akira in Orland Square Mall and a store employee was attacked Feb. 9, police said. Two unknown men involved in the theft and attack on the loss prevention employee fled the scene. Mall surveillance captured the incident. The employee received injuries to the face but refused medical treatment.

DUI ARREST: Richard McBrown, 32, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., was arrested and accused of drunken driving, driving on a suspended license and speeding 35 mph above the speed limit Feb. 9 in the 9200 block of 143rd Street, police said.

TRESPASSING ARREST: Anthony Anderson, 24, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of criminal trespassing Feb. 11 after knocking on the door of a Holly Court residence despite having previously received a no trespass order to the property, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Chris Strozyk, 42, of Palos Hills, was arrested and accused of retail theft after a $250 pair of headphones was stolen from The Apple Store in Orland Square Mall Feb. 11, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Nicolas Michas, 31, of the 2800 block of State Street, Chicago, was arrested and accused of retail theft, obstructing identification and possession of drug paraphernalia Feb. 14 at Whole Foods, 15260 LaGrange Road, police said.

Will County

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Britnee Thomas-Hooper, 28, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and speeding Feb. 10 at LaGrange and LaPorte Roads in Frankfort Township, police said.

WEAPONS CHARGE: Matthew Rowland, 35, of the 3500 block of Emerald Avenue, Steger, was arrested and accused of unlawful possession of ammunition, no valid license and improper display of registration Feb. 5 at Steger Road and Ashland in Monee, police said.

HOME BURGLARY: Someone broke into a home in the 28000 block of Klemme Road in Beecher and stole three jewelry boxes containing miscellaneous jewelry pieces Feb. 8.
