Florida Clinic Owner Given 10 Years In Prison For $42M Health Care Fraud
From April 2013 to March 2017, Kantor owned and operated Mobile Diagnostic Imaging, Inc. ("MDI"), a medical clinic in Davie, Florida that purported to provide antigen therapy and other allergen immunotherapy services, such as allergy testing and allergy shots, to commercial insurance beneficiaries.
Kantor offered and paid kickbacks to co-conspirators to induce them to refer beneficiaries to MDI, so that MDI could bill commercial insurers for services that it never provided. MDI submitted approximately $42 million in false and fraudulent claims to United Healthcare, and United paid MDI more than $12 million in reimbursement for services that beneficiaries never received.
Kantor purchased a $3 million home in the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla., two Winnebago motor coaches, and a 37' yacht with the ill-gotten proceeds.
Kantor previously pled guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Juan Antonio Gonzalez, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and George L. Piro, Special Agent in Charge, FBI, Miami Field Office, announced the sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Marcia G. Cooke.
FBI Miami investigated this case. Department of Labor provided assistance. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael Gilfarb and Michael B. Homer. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole Grosnoff is handling asset forfeiture.
