CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged a Charleston County woman accused of submitting a false insurance claim for her vehicle.
Porsha Eisheynaa McWhite, 37, is charged with presenting a false claim for an insurance payment value of $10,000 or more, according to SLED.
An affidavit accuses McWhite of knowingly submitting a false claim for insurance payment to MGA Insurance Company.
According to officials, McWhite claimed that her vehicle was heavily damaged by floodwaters on December 19, 2023, but while historical weather databases identified a significant rain event with known flooding impacts on December 17, 2023, and not on the reported date of loss, the court documents state.
Also, video surveillance footage from a nearby property displays McWhite's vehicle underwater on Dec. 17, 2023, according to the SLED documents.
The affidavit states that McWhite's insurance policy documents indicate that she added comprehensive insurance that afforded coverage for flood-related damages.
McWhite is accused of trying to gain "an undeserved economic advantage" valued at $11,405.44.
McWhite has been booked into the Sheriff AI Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County. The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
