Sens. Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $77,803 Grant for Havre de Grace Ambulance Corps

WASHINGTON, April 21 -- The office of Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., issued the following news release:

Today U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), under the Department of Homeland Security, has awarded a $77,803 grant to Havre de Grace Ambulance Corps for operations and safety.

"Making sure our first responders are well-prepared to keep our communities safe is one of government's highest priorities," said Senator Cardin. "I'm glad to see this investment in Havre de Grace's Ambulance Corp come to fruition. It will help guarantee that the dedicated men and women who rush to our aid are equipped with the latest, most sophisticated technology."

"Maryland's first responders put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe," said Senator Van Hollen. "This grant will help ensure first responders in Havre de Grace are fully prepared and equipped to respond to emergencies."

The funding will be used to purchase three power-assisted stretchers to reduce the risk of injury to emergency personnel while transporting patients in and out of ambulances.

Federal funds are awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, which awards grants directly to fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations, and state fire training academies to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel.
