An unstable insurance market puts everyday Californians at risk. Renters suffer from costs passed down by landlords who are forced to pay more for insurance, homeowners struggle to meet rising premium costs, and small business owners can't keep up with rates for commercial properties. This creates a spiraling economic threat, impacting real estate markets and regional economies across the state.

Larger and more frequent extreme weather events like wildfires, including the 2025 Los Angeles fire, will continue to drive up insurance costs while those responsible for extreme weather disasters face little to no consequences. Scientific evidence proves fossil fuels play an active role in climate change that fuels extreme weather, and records show large oil and gas corporations knowingly mislead the public about climate change for decades. The AIR Act will help stabilize the insurance market and ensure homeowners have access to affordable insurance by making Big Oil companies foot part of the rising costs.
