Sen. Hoeven Issues Statement on President Trump’s FY 2019 Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 -- The office of Sen. John Hoeven, R-North Dakota, issued the following statement on President Trump's fiscal 2019 budget proposal:
"The president's budget proposal shows strong support for rebuilding our military, securing our border, helping communities challenged by opioid addiction and caring for our veterans, all priorities that we share.
"However, I'm concerned that the president's budget proposal doesn't do enough to support our nation's farmers and ranchers. Our producers continue to face challenges from low commodity prices and natural disasters - from devastating droughts to hurricanes - which is why we need to prioritize funding for USDA programs including crop insurance, the Conservation Reserve Program and rural development.
"While we continue working to find savings where we can, we must invest in our priorities. The president's budget is a proposal, and now Congress will go to work to fund our priorities. As chairman of Senate Ag Appropriations Committee, I'll work to ensure that we maintain our agriculture budget because good agriculture policy benefits every American, every day with the lowest cost, highest quality food supply in the world produced by our farmers and ranchers."
