WASHINGTON, June 20 -- The office of Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after voting to confirm Brock Long as Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator:
"Ensuring that New Hampshire has the resources necessary to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the effects of any man-made or natural disaster is integral to the safety of our communities and the economic well-being of our entire state.
"After meeting with Mr. Long and hearing his testimony before the Homeland Security Committee, I believe that he has the experience and qualifications to help ensure that New Hampshire and states across America have the support they need to prevent against and respond to disasters when they occur.
"As a former Governor, I was particularly pleased with Mr. Long's recognition of the importance of pre-disaster mitigation in emergency management, and I continue to urge Mr. Long to stand up to President Trump's proposed budget cuts that would slash the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant program in half. I look forward to working with Mr. Long to strengthen our country's emergency preparedness and to keep all Granite Staters and Americans safe and secure."
During his hearing before the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Senator Hassan asked Mr. Long about funding for pre-disaster mitigation in light of President Trump's proposed budget cuts. For more, click here.
