Sen. Feinstein Issues Statement on Keeping Affordable Care Act
Targeted News Service
WASHINGTON, June 30 -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., issued the following statement setting the record straight on the stability of the Affordable Care Act:
"In an effort to build support for their disastrous health care bill, Senate Republicans and President Trump say the Affordable Care Act is 'dead' or 'imploding.' These statements are flat-out wrong--a political ruse.
"Covered California--the marketplace to buy health insurance--functions at a high level. That's because the state has worked hard to implement the law effectively. This is a lesson that Republican leaders would do well to learn.
"There are 1.5 million people signed up through Covered California. Enrollments have been stable, and there has been no uptick in healthy people leaving the market. The majority of people who buy insurance on the individual market in California--90 percent--don't feel the effects of rising premiums because tax credits shield them from premium increases.
"Republicans can't make an affirmative case for passing their bill so they continue to resort to false statements about the stability of the Affordable Care Act. Californians won't be fooled."
