Sen. Cortez Masto Hosts Roundtable on Threats to the Affordable Care Act

U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) hosted a roundtable today in Las Vegas on the current threats to the Affordable Care Act, including increasing premium costs and the short-term "junk plans" proposed by the Trump Administration. Senator Cortez Masto spoke with local patients and advocates about their concerns with the current state of healthcare in America and discussed Congress's responsibility to ensure patients have access to quality, affordable healthcare.

"Over 400,000 Nevadans have gained coverage since the Affordable Care Act was passed, including over 158,000 children. This Administration's repeated efforts to destabilize our healthcare system by ending cost sharing payments and expanding short-term insurance plans are raising costs and lowering the quality of healthcare for thousands of Nevadans, especially those with pre-existing conditions. These rules, combined with the effects of last year's tax bill, will increase premiums in the state by 15.2% next year. Nevadans deserve better. After hearing from patients and advocates today, I am more committed than ever to fighting to improve the ACA, making health insurance premiums more affordable, stabilizing the insurance market and expanding the number of healthcare options available to patients and families in Nevada."
