March 07--Reports of a hit-and-run traffic crash led to the arrest of a Scalf man Sunday.
Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith said that around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies Claude Hudson and Sam Mullins learned of the crash that involved private property on KY-3440 in Bimble.
And they eventually arrested 51-year-old Chuck D. Bingham.
Each deputy headed to the crash site from different directions -- Hudson turned onto KY-3440 from Old U.S. 25E in Bimble, while Mullins turned on the route from KY-11.
Mullins met the suspect vehicle and after turning around, was able to catch up to the vehicle, according to Smith.
Mullins reported the driver of the vehicle was reckless and failed to stop at a sign at KY-3440 and KY-11.
Mullins stopped the vehicle and arrested Bingham, who now faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance, no operator's license and third-degree possession of a controlled substance.
During the arrest, Mullins reported finding two Neurontin tablets.
Smith added that Bingham was also arrested Jan. 21 by the Kentucky State Police, who charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, possession of marijuana, first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), third-degree possession of a controlled substance, no or expired registration plates/registration receipt, no insurance and failure to transfer of motor vehicle.
Bingham remains jailed in the Knox County Detention Center under a $5,000 cash bond.
