Sarah Palin reports home damaged in Alaska earthquake
Contra Costa Times (Walnut Creek, CA)
Nov. 30--Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was among those assessing the damage from back-to-back earthquakes, measuring 7.0 and 5.8, that struck near Anchorage Friday morning.
Palin tweeted that her "family is intact" but her "house is not" following the quakes, which rocked buildings, shattered roads, sent people running into the streets and briefly triggered a tsunami warning for people along the Alaska coast. As of Friday afternoon, there were no reports of major injuries.
With an emoji, Palin called for prayers for Alaska. The 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate is from Wasilla, a suburb outside Anchorage. She did not elaborate on the extent of the damage to the family's home but said she imagined that other families are in a similar situation.
"So thankful to be safe; praying for our state following the earthquake," said Palin.
Palin's tweet brought replies from both fans and critics, including those who aren't fond of her conservative politics, her support of President Donald Trump, her outspoken denial of climate change, and her family's reality TV show exploits. Still even some critics sent thoughts and prayers for her family's safety.
"While I completely disagree with you politically, your family and all others affected are in my thought, and my family will pray for a speedy, safe, recovery- stay safe!" tweeted one person.
