San Francisco Health Plan is Recognized for Outstanding Performance in Quality Care From The California Department of Health Care Services

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Managed Care Weekly Digest -- San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP), a community health plan serving over 145,000 San Francisco residents, announced that it is the recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Performance in Quality Care from the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) (see also San Francisco Health Plan).

Award rankings are determined by performance in the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS), a national set of measures for clinical care delivered to health plan members, developed by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

SFHP's HEDIS scores for services provided reached the high performance levels (within the top 10 percent of all Medicaid plans nationwide) in 12 out of 27 measures.

These results ranked SFHP first in the state for public health plans and third among Medi-Cal health plans. SFHP ranked second in the nation in the HEDIS measure of members with diabetes with their Hemoglobin HBA1c under control.

Launched in 1997, SFHP now provides health care to over 145,000 members. Combined with Healthy San Francisco, the City's non-insurance health care access program, SFHP provides services to over 160,000 residents, or over 19% of the City's population, which is one in six San Francisco residents.

"Efforts including partnering with our providers on our Practice Improvement Program, incentive programs, and targeted improvement make a positive difference in the overall care our members receive."

The HEDIS 2016 Quality Award reflects results reported to the state in 2016 based on 2015 data.
