RESTORE Louisiana Homeowner Assistance survey deadline approaching

The deadline for the RESTORE Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program Survey is Tuesday, Aug. 1, giving homeowners a little over two weeks to access assistance.

This survey helps low-to-moderate income homeowners affected by Hurricanes Laura, Delta, Ida and the May 2021 storms, as well as additional 2020 and 2021 federally declared disasters, to determine if they are eligible for RESTORE and is a first step toward registering for assistance.

To keep locals updated and informed, the city of Lake Charles will be hosting a Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance update 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 17, at the MLK Center, 2009 Simmons St.

Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter said the goal is to ensure locals that are in the greatest need are able to take advantage of the federal funding.

"For individual homeowners still needing individual assistance to repair their homes, RESTORE Louisiana is the single best way to access federal assistance. Millions of dollars in supplemental disaster recovery aid have been allocated to the State of Louisiana to assist residents with re-establishing themselves in safe housing," he explained.

Due to recent changes in program eligibility, some homeowners that were previously ineligible before may now be eligible for assistance. "Even if a resident paid out of pocket for repairs, they may be eligible for reimbursement through this program."

In addition to members of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and city officials, state representatives will be present at the meeting to give residents vital information on how to complete the survey and submit RESTORE applications.

The survey can be accessed online at www.restore.la.gov/survey. To complete the survey, homeowners need to provide their FEMA Registration Number and Hazard/Flood Insurance Provider and Policy Number.

The meeting is free and open to the public.
