WASHINGTON, March 26 -- Rep. Robert C. Scott, D-Virginia, issued the following joint statement with Reps. Richard E. Neal, D-Massachusetts, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Frank Pallone Jr., D-New Jersey, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, after the Trump administration wrote to the Fifth Circuit urging the court to uphold the district court ruling in Texas vs. United States striking down the entirety of the Affordable Care Act:
"The Trump Administration is now actively supporting a lawsuit that would cause millions of people to lose their health insurance, eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and trigger an immediate spike in health care costs for all Americans. This decision demonstrates a shocking disregard for the health and well-being of Americans across this country.
"Once again, Republicans are saying they support protections for patients with pre-existing conditions while simultaneously attempting to eliminate those protections. Words are not enough; the American people are demanding action to defend patient protections and increase access to affordable care.
"Today, House Democrats are introducing legislation that keeps our promise to protect patients, lower costs, and ensure all Americans have access to quality and affordable care."
