WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) released the following statement on the federal water shortage declaration for Lake Mead.
"The water shortage declaration for Lake Mead is more evidence of the dangerous threat that climate change poses to communities in the West," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "As we work to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and slow the pace of climate change, I will keep pushing for fair water distribution policies that ensure a consistent supply of clean water in Nevada for generations to come."
Congressman Horsford is a co-sponsor of the Large Scale Water Recycling Project Investment Act, a bill that would combat the water crisis at Lake Mead by allowing the federal government to provide matching funding for water recycling and reuse projects, including those in the Colorado River Basin.
Under the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Nevada would receive $403 million over five years to improve water infrastructure across the state and ensure clean, safe drinking water for all families. The bill also makes historic investments to harden the nation's infrastructure against climate change and protect communities most at risk for drought and extreme weather events.
