Rep. Sires Decries the Administration's Attempt to Sabotage the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, June 27 -- Rep. Albio Sires, D-New Jersey, issued the following news release:

As briefs were filed in the Supreme Court case to undermine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) this week, Congressman Sires slammed the Trump Administration's irresponsible attempt to eliminate health care for millions of Americans.

"As the number of U.S. deaths from coronavirus approaches 125,000, the global pandemic continues to ravage our country and we unfortunately continue to break case records. Yet, the Administration has continued its relentless assault on the ACA, as the Supreme Court prepares to hear the case that could determine the future of health care in America," said Congressman Sires. "While I am unsurprised by the Administration's cruel attempts to pull the rug out from seniors, women, families, and individuals with pre-existing conditions, these actions are especially vindictive in light of the public health crisis which has infected nearly 2.5 million Americans, and likely many more."

"One recent analysis suggests upwards of 23 million Americans could lose coverage if the ACA is repealed, a situation that has been exacerbated by the economic downturn caused by the pandemic.

No individual or family should have to make the impossible decision on whether or not they can afford to seek medical care - especially during a global health crisis. The Administration's response to coronavirus has failed the American people, putting lives needlessly at risk. This continuous pursuit to undermine the ACA, particularly at a time like this, is simply inhumane."
