Rep. Sarbanes Secures Grant for Senior Housing Facility in Greater Baltimore

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 -- Rep. John Sarbanes, D-Md. (3rd CD), issued the following news release:

Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today announced that Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. (CHAI) will receive grant funding over three years from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to hire a full-time Enhanced Services Coordinator and a part-time Wellness Coach.

Funded through HUD's Supportive Services Demonstration for Elderly Households in HUD-Assisted Multifamily Housing program, the Enhanced Services Coordinator and the Wellness Coach will help residents at CHAI's Weinberg Village I in Owings Mills access high-quality and low-cost health care.

"CHAI is a vital resource for seniors in Northwest Baltimore and a tremendous force of positive change in our community," said Congressman Sarbanes. "This new investment made by HUD will help CHAI improve health care services and lower costs for seniors who live in its affordable housing communities."

"We're thrilled that HUD has chosen one of our affordable senior housing units as a grantee for this new national demonstration project," said Mitchell Posner, Executive Director of CHAI. "We pride ourselves on the supportive services offered to our residents, and with this new HUD grant, we will be able to help more residents age-in-place and reduce the number of unnecessary visits to ERs, hospitalizations and nursing homes.
