WASHINGTON, July 17 -- Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, issued the following statement regarding House repeal of the Cadillac tax:
The Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act of 2019 (H.R. 748) repeals the 40 percent excise tax on high value employer-sponsored health insurance. The tax provision was supposed to take effect in 2022. It applied to health insurance coverage with a value estimated to be above $11,200 for self-only coverage and $32,100 for family coverage.
"The Cadillac Tax would have left working families with less coverage, higher deductibles, and increased out of pocket costs.
"Repealing this tax is a no-brainer. Today's vote by the House will bring relief to 181 million Americans who depend on employer-sponsored health insurance.
"We need to continue to come together to create a health care system that works for hard-working families and ensure every American has access to affordable, quality care.
"Our vote today demonstrates we have the power to do just that."
