Targeted News Service
WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 -- House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., issued the following statement after Congress received the Trump administration's request for supplemental disaster relief funding in the wake of recent hurricanes:
"This has been the worst hurricane season in recent memory. The devastation caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria has disrupted millions of American lives, most recently in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
"We have sent aid from FEMA's disaster relief accounts, but more is clearly needed, and this funding request will help meet that need.
"Congress will continue to work with the Trump administration to make sure our fellow citizens get additional resources so they can recover and rebuild."
NOTE: Speaker Ryan and congressional leaders received a briefing on relief efforts in Puerto Rico at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today.
