Rep. Rooney Votes Against Obamacare – a Failed Social Experiment

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 -- Rep. Francis Rooney, R-Florida, issued the following news release:

Last evening, Congressman Rooney voted against legislation favorable towards the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare.

Congressman Rooney stated, "We need to put patients first and Obamacare disrupted this important relationship. Congress must acknowledge Obamacare is a failed social experiment that sharply raised health cost for Americans across the country. For others, the increase in deductibles left individuals with insurance, but they could not afford the actual health care. I will continue to fight against the ongoing efforts designed to continue this broken system that raises health care costs.

"Despite the contentions from the left, nobody is seeking to remove protections for patients with pre-existing conditions. I support new legislation with solutions to protect these patients but will not support subjecting the American people to the poor healthcare offered by Obamacare."

Background:

A federal judge for a U.S. district court in Texas ruled The Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, to be unconstitutional on December 14th, 2018.

This legislation would authorize the Office of General Counsel of the House of Representatives, at the will of the Speaker, to enter a case to defend the constitutionality of the act.

Currently, one-third of U.S. counties and almost half of all counties in Florida, including Collier and Lee Counties, have only one insurer offering exchange plans.

Eighteen of twenty-three exchanges have failed and less than half of the expected exchange sign-ups have occurred.
