Rep. Perry Issues Statement on National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act

WASHINGTON, July 25 -- Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pennsylvania, issued the following statement upon the passage of the 2018 National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act:
"We're a generous nation and we help our neighbors - as we've seen across the Susquehanna Valley this week alone - but we have to stop spending our Nation into oblivion.
"Today, I supported a funding extension for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), albeit unfortunately without reforms. If nothing changes, the program runs the risk of insolvency, leaving millions of homeowners without recourse or protection. While the House passed a comprehensive reform package to the program with my support earlier this year, the reform plan continues to languish in the Senate. Once again, I implore the Senate to take up these reforms.
"The NFIP was designed to help homeowners and fill a void in the free market; it's instead become a federal boondoggle, authorizing taxpayer-financed repairs of second and third homes - repeatedly in flood and hurricane prone areas, with little restriction."
