Rep. Luetkemeyer Supports 21st Century Flood Reform Act in House

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 -- Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., issued the following statement after voting in support of the 21st Century Flood Reform Act, which will reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program for five years:
"Reforming the NFIP is of incredible importance, not just to every individual living inside a floodplain but to all taxpayers. Under the current NFIP framework, individuals are required to purchase flood insurance but have little to no choice in coverage options.
"Some homeowners are mandated by the government to purchase coverage because of outdated maps. Today's legislation puts in place reforms to NFIP to take taxpayers off the hook, establish a better community flood mapping process, and shift more risk to the private sector. It also gives reassurances to the families who live in flood zones that if disaster strikes their home, they'll be able to rebuild their lives and keep a roof over their loved ones heads.
"I hope my colleagues in the Senate follow suit and bring this comprehensive legislation to the floor quickly so we can help taxpayers and homeowners all across the nation."
Included in the legislation are H.R. 2246, the Taxpayer Exposure Mitigation Act, and H.R. 2565, legislation to require FEMA to use actual replacement cost when pricing premiums. Both measures were introduced by Luetkemeyer earlier this year.
