WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 -- Rep. Ruben Kihuen, D-Nev., issued the following news release:
Today, Representative Ruben J. Kihuen held a press conference to urge Congress to take action to reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which is set to expire on September 30. CHIP is a partnership between the federal government and states that has helped ensure access to health care for children and pregnant mothers from low-income working families across the United States and provides health insurance coverage to 8.9 million children nationwide. In Nevada's Fourth district, 34 percent of children are covered by Medicaid/CHIP. Rep. Kihuen joined representatives from the American Academy of Pediatrics Nevada Chapter and the Children's Advocacy Alliance to urge Republicans to come together with Democrats and work to prevent a disruption in coverage for thousands of Nevada children.
