Rep. Harder Announces Numbers Showing Drastic Health Care Savings for Valley Families From Inflation Reduction Act

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 -- Rep. Joshua Harder, D-California, issued the following news release:

Representative Josh Harder announced that families in the 10th Congressional District will soon see lower health insurance premiums and more affordable prescription drugs for Medicare recipients made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act.In all, more than 40,000 people in Rep. Harder's district will save money on their health care and prescription drug bills due to this bill.

"We took on big pharma, we won, and now 40,000 people in our community will save thousands on life saving health care and medications because of it," said Rep. Harder. "I ran for office because when my brother was born prematurely, and my family was sent a $2 million medical bill. I get what it's like to deal with our terrible healthcare system. This bill is a big step closer to making sure everyone in our community gets the care they need."

In the 10th Congressional District alone:

* 31,563 individuals who receive health care through the Affordable Care Act exchanges in CA-10 will save an average of $1,084 on their yearly premiums.

* 8,300 Medicare beneficiaries in CA-10 who use insulin will have their monthly copayments capped at $35 per month, beginning in 2023.

* 2,000 Medicare Part D beneficiaries in CA-10 will have their out-of-pocket prescription drug costs limited to $2,000 per year, beginning in 2025.

If the Inflation Reduction Act had been in effect in 2020:

* The total cost of prescriptions filled by Medicare beneficiaries in CA-10 could have been $26 million lower.

* Medicare beneficiaries in CA-10 could have saved a total of $8 million in reduced premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
