WASHINGTON, April 3 -- Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Florida, issued the following statement after the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, West Palm Beach Police Department and Palm Beach were reimbursed over $5.6 million for protecting President Trump when he visits South Florida:
"While the President must be protected wherever he goes, his many trips to Mar-a-Lago lead to huge expenses for law enforcement and local budgets. These reimbursements will provide some much needed relief, and I'll keep working to make sure our community is provided with fair and timely federal compensation as long as Trump continues to visit."
Throughout the 115th Congress, Frankel advocated for these reimbursements by leading Palm Beach County Congressional delegation letters to the Appropriations Committee in support of full funding for the grant program. Now, as a member of Appropriations, she will continue to fight for this priority.
Reimbursements are distributed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Presidential Residence Protection Assistance Grant, which compensates law enforcement for extra costs associated with protecting President Trump at his non-governmental residences. Since his inauguration, President Trump has spent 111 days at Mar-a-Lago with more visits expected.
