Rep. Fitzpatrick Seeks Constituent Input on Healthcare Reform

LANGHORNE, Pa., Feb. 3 -- Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., issued the following news release:

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) Tuesday announced the start of series of sit-down meetings and listening events with Bucks and Montgomery county physicians, experts and patients focused on healthcare reform.

"In Washington, I serve as an independent voice for this community, and being that voice starts with taking the time to listen," said Fitzpatrick. "The American people deserve elected officials who are willing to acknowledge the fact that increasing access to affordable and reliable healthcare is a goal that transcends political ideology. Only then can we proceed in fixing our healthcare system in a responsible, deliberate manner that ensures both the continuity of coverage and patient protection provisions."

"Congress should focus on opportunities to make coverage more affordable and accessible to all Americans. It is essential that gains in the number of Americans with health insurance coverage be maintained," said Marilyn Heine, MD who practices hematology oncology in Bucks County. "Before Congress takes any action that would potentially alter coverage, policymakers should provide the American people with a clear understanding of what would replace current policies. Patients and other stakeholders should be able to readily compare current policy to new proposals so they can make informed decisions about whether it represents a step forward in the ongoing process of health system reform."

Fitzpatrick has been an advocate for increasing access to healthcare and medical treatments, including speaking out in support of removing barriers to care for terminally ill Americans through Right to Try legislation. He has also called for the doubling women's health funding at the National Institutes of Health from $4 billion to $8 billion, and increased services and accessibility at women's health clinics.
