RAJA HIGHLIGHTS ECONOMIC IMPACT OF AFFORDABLE CARE ACT REPEAL IN FIRST HEARING AS RANKING MEMBER OF SUBCOMMITTEE
Congressional Documents & Publications
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi presided for the first time as the lead Democrat on the subcommittee on health care for the Oversight & Government Reform Committee. In a hearing analyzing the impacts of the Affordable Care Act, Krishnamoorthi highlighted the massive economic consequences of repealing the law without a replacement. Drawing from his own experience as a small businessman, Krishnamoorthi questioned witnesses, including Jon Siegel, a small business owner from Rochester, NY. Siegel discussed the positive impacts of the Affordable Care Act for his company and family, along with the dire consequences for both if the law were repealed.
"Today we heard from Jon Siegel who not only created a successful small business, but told us how the Affordable Care Act's guarantee of affordable coverage made that possible," Krishnamoorthi noted after the hearing. "As a former small businessman, I know the role health care costs play in running a business and through the Affordable Care Act we've seen entrepreneurs flourish because starting a business no longer meant they couldn't afford their healthcare. Repealing the law without replacing it will not only destroy millions of jobs, it will diminish the entrepreneurship that created those jobs in the first place."
