Insurance Weekly News
By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Weekly News -- Last week's torrential rainfall and devastating destruction have left many in dire need of assistance. On Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 4:00 p.m ET, Practising Law Institute (PLI) will host a free online live One-Hour Audio Briefing, Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey: Disaster Assistance, to anyone interested in providing Pro Bono legal help to individuals affected by Hurricane Harvey. The On-Demand program will be available on Friday, September 8, 2017.
"Our thoughts are with those in Texas and Louisiana experiencing tremendous hardship due to Hurricane Harvey. It is especially at times like these that our commitment is renewed even more to provide the legal community with the most effective training possible in order to help those in need," said Anita C. Shapiro, President of PLI. "Our pro bono initiatives continue to include programs on timely and critical subjects as well as other important access-to-justice topics."
During this One-Hour Briefing, expert faculty from FEMA and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services will provide a broad overview of federal disaster assistance, address eligibility criteria for the Individual and Households Program, and offer an outline of the National Flood Insurance Program. The Briefing will also discuss the Standard Flood Insurance Policy (SFIP), filing claims, the most common reasons for FEMA denials, and practice tips to help survivors overcome FEMA denials.
