Providing a personal touch for 35 years

Hillsdale Daily News, The (MI)

Feb. 25-- Feb. 25--HILLSDALE -- For 35 years Gold Star Taxes has been serving residents of Hillsdale County, providing top quality tax service at an affordable price.

The business began in 1983 when Randy Giminez opened a small tax service across the street from the Finish Line. In the mid 1990s the business was moved to its current location at 12 N. Howell Street.

Randy's son, Saul took over the business in 2006 after Randy retired.

Saul said growing up he never really had the ambition to go into the family business until he changed his major in college.

"I have been here ever since," he said.

Giminez believes it's the personal touch his business offers its clients that keeps people coming back.

Gold Star Taxes strives to build a relationship with all of its clients.

"From the moment you step into our office, we want you to feel like a part of our family here at Gold Star," the business touts on its website. "We strive to be your trusted tax advisor that instills confidence in the job we are performing.

"We see around 3,000 clients during tax season," he said.

Those kind of numbers keeps Giminez's eight employees busy during the first three and a half months of the year, during tax season.

"A lot of people don't want to do their taxes on their own so they continue to come to us," he said. "We are here for them if something comes up with the IRS or at the state level."

Gold Star Taxes offers same day tax preparation for the majority of its clients with refund advances available for those clients who qualify. Walk-ins are welcome, but Giminez said appointments are preferred during the busy times.

"Our busiest month is February," he said.

Financial planning and investing is offered by Kevin Way, who bought that portion of the business from Giminez's father in 2006.

After tax season is over Giminez said his focus turns to assisting clients with their tax questions and consulting.

The staff includes enrolled agents as well as an investment advisor representative. The staff continually attends seminars and study courses to maintain and improve their knowledge of the tax laws.
