ProMedica taps Browning for CFO position

July 28--ProMedica has tapped Michael Browning to take over the role of chief financial officer, replacing Alan Sattler.

Mr. Sattler became the vice president of business development for ProMedica's health insurance company Paramount earlier this year.

Gary Akenberger, ProMedica's senior vice president of finance, has served as interim CFO since February.

Mr. Browning, 53, will start work Aug. 8. He is moving to Toledo from Raleigh, N.C., where he was CFO of a private, nonprofit health-care system, WakeMed Health and Hospitals.

His tenure at WakeMed was just a year. He had worked for Parkview Health in Fort Wayne for several years. Having lived in this region before, Mr. Browning said he was familiar with ProMedica and has great admiration for Randy Oostra, president and CEO.

"It's probably one of the only jobs I would have considered after just a short time in Raleigh," Mr. Browning said.

As CFO of ProMedica, he will report to Mr. Oostra and will oversee the health system's financial operations, including accounting, financial planning, revenue cycle, managed care, reimbursement, treasury, and internal audit as well as supply chain management and risk management.

"When you look at ProMedica's history they have accomplished many great things. They are one of the most innovative and progressive health systems in the country," he said.

Mr. Browning has more than 25 years of experience in health-care finance and holds a master of business administration degree from the University of Louisville.
