Trump: 90/10 Split With Federal Government Coming After Hurricane Michael
News Herald (Panama City, FL)
It appears one of the main wishes on local officials' list related to President Donald Trump's visit came true, as Trump announced a 90/10 split with the federal government during his campaign rally in Panama City Beach.
The split would see the federal government reimbursing for 90 percent of debris removal and hurricane recovery expenses after Hurricane Michael for local municipalities and school districts. The municipality or district would then pick up 5 percent, and the state the last 5 percent.
If approved, the move would save the entities millions, as several cities have debris removal bills larger than their annual budget.
The current split is 75/25, with the federal government picking up 75 percent and the state/municipality covering 12.5 percent. Earlier this year, Trump signed an order for the federal government to cover 100 percent of debris removal and hurricane recovery costs for the first 45 days after the storm.
Greg Brudnicki and Griff Griffits says the governor told them it will be a 90/10 split.
