Jan. 29--Investigators have determined the fire that ripped through the Flamingo Diner in Plymouth Twp. on Monday evening was an accident.
A state police fire marshal visited the scene Tuesday. A press release issued Tuesday night by investigating officer Trooper Justin Landsiedel said only that "the fire was determined to be accidental." No other details were released.
The property on Route 11 sustained "extensive damage" and could be a "total loss," Nanticoke Fire Chief Kevin Hazleton said.
Meanwhile, the owner is hopeful the property could be saved.
"I want to thank everyone who has reached out, stopped by, and those continually reaching out to me. I will say, the building sustained excessive damage and I currently don't know what will happen next," the owner posted on the business' Facebook page.
The diner had a sign on the front saying the business was "under new management."
"The main reason I took the diner over was for the customers. You guys are great and it brings me to tears just thinking of not seeing everyone there any longer. I'm hoping the insurance says it's not a total loss, but we won't be able to find that out until later on. I want to thank everyone for their support, you guys are seriously the best group of people I know!"
