Penn National Insurance Donates $50,000 Toward COVID-19 Relief, Allocates Funds to Relief in Field Office Regions

Business Wire

HARRISBURG, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Penn National Insurance donated $50,000 to the United Way of the Capital Region (Harrisburg, Pa., area) COVID-19 Relief fund, and allocated additional contribution funds to management of the company’s field offices, which were directed to the following organizations:

  • Hunger Relief Fund of Wisconsin
  • Greensboro Urban Ministry (food, clothing, shelter)
  • Second Harvest Food Bank Nashville
  • Trenton Area Soup Kitchen
  • Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

The company also donated more than 19,000 face masks to Geisinger Holy Spirit Healthcare (Harrisburg, Pa., area) to support and recognize the tireless work of all healthcare professionals.

The company has supported policyholders in the following ways:

  • Applying a credit of 15% to two months of premiums for Personal Automobile Insurance policies in force as of April 30, in recognition of the temporary reduction in vehicle miles driven caused by COVID-19-related stay-at-home directives. The credit will be applied automatically to policyholders’ next premium balance or refunded if the premium had already been paid in full, benefiting the company’s 165,000 Personal Automobile Insurance customers.
  • Providing an extended 30-day premium grace period to give customers more time to pay before cancellation notices are sent, waiving late fees and reinstatement fees. The company’s Customer Contact Center representatives also have the authority to switch a policyholder to a more convenient payment plan.
  • Providing uninterrupted customer service throughout the temporary transition to working from home.

Penn National Insurance (www.pennnationalinsurance.com), founded in 1919, in Harrisburg, Pa., sells property-casualty insurance in 11 states, through a network of more than 1,200 independent agency operations. The company wrote $749.6 million in net written premium in 2019 on $663.7 million in policyholders’ surplus, and total assets exceeded $1.8 billion. The company employs approximately 830 people in its 11-state sales and service territory.
