Pelosi Statement on Trump Administration's Supplemental Request for Disaster Relief
San Francisco - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following the Trump Administration's request to Congress for supplemental disaster relief funding:
"The Administration's request is inadequate and insulting to victims of hurricanes and wildfires across our country.
"The still urgent needs of our fellow Americans impacted by Hurricanes Maria and Irma are not met by this supplemental. The needs in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands remain especially dire, and this proposal does not include sufficient resources for rebuilding and recovery, or address the Medicaid cliff or the needed cost-sharing waivers.
"Furthermore, the needs of those devastated by wildfires, including in California, are completely ignored in the Administration's request. This stunning omission is deeply hurtful to all the families still reeling from the historic wildfires in Northern California that destroyed thousands of homes and took too many lives.
"Congress must act swiftly to ensure those impacted by the recent fires and hurricanes have the resources they need to begin to recover, rebuild and heal, and make the needed investments to avoid such devastation in the future."
