Pa. House Republicans: House Insurance Committee Advances Consumer-Friendly Legislation, Says Pickett

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania, Nov. 17 -- The Pennsylvania House Republicans issued the following news release on Nov. 16, 2021:

The House Insurance Committee, chaired by Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna), unanimously approved several bills that would benefit Pennsylvania consumers on Monday.

"One of this committee's most important responsibilities is to examine and advance legislation that is good news for consumers, like these three bills," said Pickett. "Two of them ensure customers are protected during the insurance policy renewal process, while the other helps parents struggling to pay the premiums for their child's state-sponsored health care coverage. We are hopeful these bills will advance quickly through the General Assembly."

The proposals are as follows:

* House Bill 1679, sponsored by Pickett, would establish a statutory process to protect consumers when an insurer makes a policy change at the renewal of automobile coverage.

* House Bill 1680, sponsored by Pickett, would establish a statutory process to protect consumers when an insurer makes a policy change at the renewal of homeowners' coverage.

* House Bill 2072, sponsored by Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton), would allow federal COVID-19 relief funds to go toward making delinquent Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) members current with their premium payments.

The bills were sent to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
