Orangeburg County plant fire extinguished; no injuries reported, no major disruptions expected at Trinity
Times & Democrat (Orangeburg, SC)
May 18-- May 18--No one was reported injured in a fire at Trinity Highway Products on Friday afternoon.
The fire remains under investigation but it appears to be accidental, Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Lt. Robert Hill said.
"There's a little welding machine up there. It looks like that caught on fire and the fire ran up the wall," Hill said at the scene.
He said the call came in at 3:24 p.m. and public safety officers were on the scene two minutes later.
"The fire has been extinguished and no one was injured. The company does not anticipate any significant disruptions to operations at this time," said Jessica L. Greiner, Trinity's vice president of investor relations and communications.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the company takes very seriously the safety of its employees at its facilities," Greiner said.
This is the second fire at the plant in just over a year.
On Feb. 18, 2018, acid caused an explosion that set the top of the structure ablaze.
The wall that burned on Friday was constructed after last year's fire.
Trinity Highway Products LLC, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, is a leading manufacturer of highway guardrails, guardrail end treatments, temporary and permanent crash cushions, truck-mounted attenuators and cable barrier systems.
The Orangeburg plant is located at 600 Prosperity Drive in the Orangeburg County Industrial Park.
