Open enrollment for Kynect begins

Hazard Herald, The (KY)

Oct. 28--Well over half a million Kentuckians now have health care coverage through kynect. Things have changed in Kentucky and people have new options for their health care! If you got insurance through kynect last year, you will want to review your plan to see if you want to keep it or change plans. If you are one of the few that still doesn't have health care coverage, you should see what kynect has to offer you.

If Kentucky Health Cooperative is your insurance carrier this year, you will need to select a new plan during open enrollment since this company will not be offering health insurance plans for 2016.

Adults who are younger than 65 can qualify for Medicaid through kynect. This means men, women and children can get Medicaid now even if they couldn't before! A family of three that makes less than $2,310 a month, or a single man with an income less than $1,354 a month, can now get Medicaid. The income limits for children and pregnant women are even higher!

If you earn too much to get Medicaid, you could still get help paying for your health insurance through kynect! The amount available to assist you varies for people with income between the Medicaid income limit and 400% of the federal poverty level, which is $3,923 a month for a single person, or $6,697 a month for a family of three.

Open enrollment for kynect, (the time you can sign up for health insurance), starts November 1, 2015 and ends January 31, 2016. The health insurance plans will be available for you to review ahead of time starting October 16, 2015. During this time, you can see what healthcare plans are available to you and if you can get discounts on your insurance.

If you already receive your healthcare through Medicaid, and you want to change your Medicaid provider, the open enrollment for doing this is October 19 through December 11, 2015.
