Oklahoma House Resolves to Protect Unborn Children

OKLAHOMA CITY, May 12 -- Liberty Counsel issued the following news release:

Oklahoma's House of Representatives passed a resolution on Monday declaring abortion to be murder and calling on state officials at every level to work to support life.

Sponsored by Representative Chuck Strohm, HR 1004 states that "all human life is protected by God's law and the highest laws of the land." Copies of the resolution will be sent to President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Lawmakers hope that it will support pro-life regulations already in place in the state.

HR 1004 directs every public official in Oklahoma, including but not limited to sheriffs, district attorneys, judges and justices, the Attorney General and the Governor, to exercise their authority as appropriate in their respective jurisdictions to stop the "murder of innocent unborn children" by abortion. The resolution further directs Oklahoma judges and specifically justices of the Oklahoma Supreme Court to not interfere with the legislature's "right to clarify Oklahoma criminal law regarding abortion" per the Oklahoma Constitution. The resolution also states that all human beings are protected by the United States Constitution and that the United States Supreme Court "overstepped its authority and jurisdiction" by offering opinions in Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood v. Casey and other abortion-related cases.

"We strongly urge other states to do likewise as the value of human life is not a negotiable matter. The womb should be the safest place for a child and it must be legally protected. It's time to turn the tables on Roe v. Wade," said Staver.
