Ohio State Bar Association Honors Canton Area Attorneys for Longtime Service

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 17 -- The Ohio State Bar Association issued the following news release:

On Monday, Nov. 16, the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) recognized four area attorneys for 50 and 65 years of service to the community and the legal profession.

For 50 years in practice:

Retired Judge John R. Hoffman, Jr. of Canton has held many roles in the legal community since graduating from Case Western Reserve University Law School. He worked in the Ohio Attorney General's office, as a partner at Hoffman & Hoffman and as an assistant Canton City prosecutor. He also served as a judge of the Stark County Family Court, the presiding judge of the Stark County Common Pleas Court and as a visiting judge in the Ohio Supreme Court. Judge Hoffman has also been involved in many professional organizations, including as a trustee for the Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges, as part of the Ohio General Assembly Task Force on Family Law and Children, as vice president of the Ohio Domestic Relations Judges Association and as part of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. In addition to his work in the legal community, he is a decorated Vietnam War veteran.

For 65 years in practice:

Louis A. Boettler of Canton earned his law degree from The Ohio State University and was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1955. His practice in Canton focuses on personal injury and litigation.

Judge R.R. Denny Clunk of Alliance earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve University. He retired from the probate court bench in 2016 after more than 31 years of service to the state of Ohio. Throughout his career he served 22 counties in Ohio, along with filling in for numerous judges. Judge Clunk is a member of the OSBA Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section.

Alex J. Robertson of Alliance graduated from Georgetown University Law School in 1955. Following his law school graduation and subsequent admittance into the Ohio bar, he began practicing as an attorney in the legal department of the U.S. Department of Interior. He went into private practice in Alliance in 1957, where he focuses on estate planning, including areas such as property transfer after death, preparation of living trusts, wills, deeds and powers of attorney. Robertson served three terms as treasurer of the city of Alliance and was a substitute judge for both Judge Rex Russell and Judge John Thomas.

These attorneys were recognized as part of the OSBA's District 14 virtual annual meeting. District 14 includes more than 600 attorneys who practice in Carroll, Stark and Tuscarawas counties.
