According to the report, the fire started at 47 Diamond Street around 11pm before spreading to two adjacent buildings. Witnesses stated that they saw embers swirling in the air as firefighters told them to stand back. There were additional reports of explosions as it took until 1:30 in the morning for firefighters to get the massive laze under control.

Officials stated that four people, including two firemen, suffered minor injuries. The FDNY said that the damage on all three buildings was substantial enough that they would have to be demolished. While all three buildings had been occupied, it was not known how many residents would be displaced by the fire. The street was reportedly like an ice rink in the morning given all the water that was used to put out the fire. Investigators will now try to determine the cause of the fire.
