New York Life to Award 20 Scholarships Supporting Students’ Post-Secondary Education Expenses and Long-Term Financial Literacy

Business Wire

Applications for the inaugural New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship are now open to graduates from high school classes of 2025 and 2026 until August 25, 2025

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
New York Life, America’s largest1 mutual life insurer, is proud to announce the launch of the New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting students throughout major life events and expanding access to financial literacy.

Open nationwide, the scholarship is designed to help close funding gaps for post-secondary education expenses, including tuition for an accredited U.S. college or university, a trade or vocational school, and most education-related costs, such as fees, books, supplies, and required materials. Those from the high school classes of 2025 and 2026 can apply now through 4 p.m. ET on August 25, 2025, for scholarships valued at $10,000 or $20,000, with total awards amounting to $280,000. Recipients will be notified in October.

“Our field force of 12,000 agents and advisors expands access to financial literacy and wellness every day by connecting with their clients in the communities where they live and work. We also recognize that our most powerful opportunities to impart financial education often come well before someone may need professional financial guidance and life insurance,” said Amy Hu, chief marketing officer at New York Life. “Through the gamified financial education element of this scholarship, we’re able to connect with the next generation of leaders by making financial learning easy, fun, and accessible – turning complex topics into engaging, bite-sized lessons, while also supporting the financial needs of post-secondary students. This scholarship reflects our belief that with the right financial partner, we can achieve more together than we ever could alone.”

The scholarship is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. To become eligible, applicants must complete a series of gamified modules designed to enhance students’ financial savvy as they transition from high school to post-secondary education. Powered by Zogo, the New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship game provides simple, module-based learning to help students build critical money management skills, and focuses on key topics such as budgeting basics, understanding credit, saving for the future and setting financial goals. Students who complete at least 25 learning modules are eligible to apply for a $10,000 scholarship. Those who complete 50 modules may apply for a $20,000 scholarship.

Once qualifying students have completed the required number of modules, they can submit their scholarship application, which includes a personal essay on their goals, how they plan to achieve them, and any financial dimensions that will impact their success. Additional scholarship details, including eligibility requirements and directions for completing modules in the Financial Empowerment Scholarship game and scholarship application, can be found on New York Life’s website.

“New York Life agents and advisors have a longstanding history of working with community partners to provide students and families with financial tools, educational resources, and holistic financial guidance tailored to their needs and goals. New York Life is committed to helping students and families move through life’s major moments with financial security and peace of mind,” said Hu.
