The department is looking into potential violations by the Kansas-based Lockton Affinity LLC, as the insurance broker, for the unlawful “marketing and sale of NRA-sponsored insurance under the Carry Guard Program,” according to DOBI Commissioner Marlene Caride.

DOBI is also investigating the Chicago, Ill.-based Illinois Union, a member of the Chubb group, over “potential violations in its role as the underwriter of the insurance product,” Caride said.

The NRA Carry Guard Insurance Program in question is aimed at covering lawful gun owners and their families from civil liability, as well as their legal costs, from civil and criminal actions stemming from using their firearms.

“New Jersey law requires insurance companies selling to residents within the state to comply with specific requirements,” Caride said. “The Department has reviewed findings by the New York Department of Financial Services associated with the marketing and sale of Carry Guard insurance in New York and is examining the marketing and sale of this product in New Jersey to determine if, and to what extent, this activity violated state insurance laws.”

Marlene added that her department is investigating the marketing and sale of similar insurance programs for violating state insurance laws, but it’s not immediately clear who else DOBI is investigating. Copyright 2018 BridgeTower Media. All Rights Reserved.
