Jackson reports record annuity sales, increases share repurchase authorization
LANSING, Mich. — Jackson Financial reported third-quarter 2026 results highlighted by record retail annuity sales, higher earnings and a $1 billion increase to its existing common share repurchase authorization.
Earnings highlights
- Net income attributable to Jackson Financial common shareholders: $847 million, or $12.37 per diluted share, compared with $65 million, or $0.92 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2025.
- Adjusted operating earnings: $517 million, or $7.55 per diluted share, compared with $433 million, or $6.16 per diluted share, a year earlier.
- Adjusted operating earnings per diluted share, excluding notable items: $7.67, up from $5.98 in the third quarter of 2025.
Jackson said the results reflect higher spread income from growth in average spread-block assets under management and a reduced share count resulting from share repurchases.
Record annuity sales
Retail annuity sales reached a record $6.5 billion in the third quarter, up 22% from the same period a year ago.
Sales were led by continued growth in registered index-linked annuities and fixed index annuities:
- RILA sales: Record $3 billion, up 44% from the third quarter of 2025.
- Variable annuity sales: $2.8 billion, down 3% from a year earlier, excluding certain internal exchanges.
- Fixed annuity and fixed index annuity sales: $796 million, up 79% from the third quarter of 2025, driven by Jackson's Income Assurance Suite.
Capital and liquidity
Jackson said it remains well positioned to achieve its 2026 financial targets, supported by capital generation, cash flow and liquidity.
As of Sept. 30, 2026:
- Total adjusted capital: $5.9 billion.
- Estimated risk-based capital ratio: 524% at Jackson National Life Insurance Co.
- Free capital generation: $281 million during the quarter.
- Holding company liquidity: Nearly $1.4 billion in cash and highly liquid securities.
Shareholder returns
Jackson returned $291 million to common shareholders during the third quarter, up 39% from the third quarter of 2025.
That included:
- $230 million in common share repurchases.
- $61 million in common dividends.
The company's board also:
- Declared a fourth-quarter common stock dividend of $0.90 per share.
- Declared a fourth-quarter preferred stock dividend of $0.50 per depositary share.
- Approved a $1 billion increase to Jackson's existing common share repurchase authorization.
