MURPHY STATEMENT ON DANGEROUS NEW REPUBLICAN HEALTH CARE BILL
Congressional Documents & Publications
WASHINGTON - Following reports that Congressional Republicans renewed their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the following statement.
"Last month, Republicans threw together a disaster of a bill that would jack up health care costs and strip insurance away from 24 million Americans. Everybody hated it, and after just 18 days out in the open, the bill was pulled from consideration. Now, this monstrosity of a bill is back, and to make the bill more palatable to right wingers, the big change appears to be the abandonment of the protections for people with preexisting conditions. Yet another Trump promise shattered. The Republican health care repeal bill was an unworkable, unpopular piece of garbage a month ago, and it still is today" said Murphy.
"Our health care system still has problems, but this bill doesn't even try to fix any of them. People in Connecticut want us to work together to lower costs, and so do I. But before we're able to do that, Republicans in Congress need to put their constituents first and stop tripping over themselves to ram through flawed legislation just so President Trump can check a box before his first 100 days are up," Murphy added.
