Motive in slaying of Helendale man may have been life insurance policy

Feb. 07--BAKERSFIELD -- The prosecution introduced testimony at Sabrina Limon's preliminary hearing on Tuesday that a $300,000 life insurance policy may have been the motive in the slaying of Limon's husband, Robert, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe employee.

The Helendale man was shot to death in August 2014 at a BNSF industrial complex in Tehachapi.

His wife, Sabrina, 37, was arrested Jan. 7 and charged with murder conspiracy, solicitation to commit murder, attempted murder, poisoning and accessory.

Her former lover, Hesperia resident Jonathan Hearn, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and other charges ib In exchange for the plea deal that will result in up to more than 25 years in prison, Hearn agreed to testify against Sabrina Limon.

A detective testified Tuesday that he noticed New York Life insurance paperwork in Sabrina Limon's house.

Hearn was expected to testify later Tuesday afternoon, but the prosecution also introduced evidence that the former firefighter fashioned a silencer out of flashlight, which he used to shoot Robert Limon in Tehachapi.

According to court documents, Hearn also admitted on Jan. 3 to a poisoning plot in which he and Sabrina Limon conspired to doctor Robert Limon's banana pudding with arsenic.
